First Update to OS X Lion Available

Apple has made the first update to OS X Lion available for download via Software Update. 10.7.1 marks the first release for OS X Lion which was released last month, notably the update is also delivered in delta form making the download significantly smaller than previous OS updates.

Apple delivers the following statement with OS X 10.7.1:

The 10.7.1 update is recommended for all users running OS X Lion and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:

  • Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari
  • Resolve an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  • Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  • Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion

Apple offered different versions of 10.7.1 to users of its latest Macs, giving particular attention to some problems that have been causing issues on Apple’s newest MacBook Air and Mac mini products:

  • Resolve an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached
  • Resolve an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air
  • Resolve an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media

iTunes 10.3.1 Delivers Minor Bug Fixes

Apple has released a minor update to iTunes which presumably fixes a number of minor bugs that arose from the initial launch of iTunes 10.3 on Monday. No news notes are included with iTunes 10.3.1 but a number of discussion topics on Apple’s support forums suggest that iTunes 10.3 had an iOS device syncing issue.

iTunes 10.3.1 is accompanied with the same notes as the original release:

Introducing iTunes in the Cloud beta. The music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices. You can also download your past iTunes purchases. Where you want, when you want.

- Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.

- Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music purchases again at no additional cost. Your purchases are available in the iTunes Store on your Mac or in the iTunes app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.

iTunes 10.3 also adds Books to the iTunes Store, where you can discover and buy your favorite books on your computer and automatically download them to iBooks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

This version also allows you to use Automatic Downloads with apps and books or download previously purchased apps and books from your computer or iOS device.

Apple Posts iTunes 10.3

Apple has iTunes 10.3 available for download on the main Apple website. Despite releasing iTunes 10.5 beta to developers the new version for the public brings some early iCloud features which are available to iOS 4.3 devices.

The following notes accompany the iTunes 10.3 download:

Logic Updates Bring Garageband for iPad Support

Today Apple released minor updates for Logic Pro and Logic Express, whilst the updates include a number of changes and fixes they primarily add support for projects imported from Garageband for iPad.

Compatibility

  • Logic can now open songs created by GarageBand for iPad.

Performance and Stability

  • Logic now provides more specific messaging when playback is stopped because of hard drive performance issues.
  • Resolves an issue in which Logic sometimes performed very slowly after a project that was saved without assets was consolidated.
  • Logic no longer quits unexpectedly when copying, pasting, or swapping voices between slots in Ultrabeat.

64-bit Mode

  • Resolves an issue in 64-bit mode in which a generic interface for some 32-bit plug-ins was displayed.

Automation

  • Resolves an issue in which moving a region to a different Arrange track assigned to the same channel strip could cause automation to be deleted.
  • Drag-copy of automation curves now works as expected on grouped tracks.
  • Moving an automation node that lies between two other nodes of the same value to the left or right no longer causes it to decrease by -0.1 db in value.
  • Resolves an issue introduced in Logic 9.1 in which performing Undo after using the “Move Visible Track Automation to Region” command would delete the automation.

Audio Editing

  • Resolves an issue in which performing Undo after creating an alias for a region would shorten the region in No Overlap mode.
  • Audio Regions that contain slashes in the name can now be successfully merged using the Glue Tool or Merge command.
  • Quantization of audio regions that have stretched or compressed and contain tempo information now works reliably.
  • Quantize and Q-Strength now work properly on regions created by exporting a Comp from a Take Folder.
  • Resolves an issue where lengthening an audio region could sometimes cause the audio to unexpectedly stretch.
  • Performing Undo after flattening Takes on a group of flexed tracks now works as expected.
  • Takes no longer sometimes display as soloed when their parent Take folder is disclosed but not selected.
  • Resolves an issue in which moving a take region with Quick Swipe Comping disabled sometimes did not move the corresponding take region(s) in tracks within the same Edit Group.
  • Fixes an issue in which dividing a take region that had been created by merging several take regions together could cause the area to the right of the edit to disappear.
  • Resolves an issue in which moving a take region with Quick Swipe Comping disabled sometimes did not move the corresponding take region(s) in tracks within the same Edit Group.
  • Fixes an issue in which dividing a take region that had been created by merging several take regions together could cause the area to the right of the edit to disappear.
  • Resolves an issue in which importing a Take folder into a project with a matching track could cause existing takes to be removed from Take folders in the original track.

Control Surface Support

  • Resolves an issue introduced in Logic 9.1.2 in which pickup mode for generic control surfaces did not work as expected.

General

  • Resolves an issue in which the key commands Next Screenset and Previous Screenset were reversed.
  • If the Startup Action preference is set to “Ask,” it is again possible to open a project by dragging it onto the Logic icon while the Startup window is open.
  • The default region quantize setting is now maintained after importing channel strips from another project.

Apple Updates Digital Camera RAW and ProKit

Apple has today issued two software updates improving the compatibility of some of the new Digital SLR cameras with Apple’s prosumer and professional software as well as fixing numerous minor issues within the company’s range of professional products.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.7 – 6.62MB

This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11:

Samsung GX-1S

Prokit 7.0 – 15.7MB

This ProKit Update fixes the following minor issues:

  • Improved support for PopOver style tooltips.
  • Improved support for Font Smoothing.
  • Addresses an issue with an unwanted gap between a menu and submenu.
  • Fixes leaks and improves stability for the color picker and timecode interface in Final Cut Pro and Motion.
  • Improved compatibility when importing assets from older versions of Soundtrack Pro.
  • Fixes an issue with the scrubber appearance in Logic Express and Logic Pro.

Addresses AppKit related crashes in Motion.
This update is recommended for users of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iPhoto, Aperture, Final Cut Express, Logic Pro, MainStage, Logic Express and iAd Producer.

Apple has made Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 3 available to registered Mac developers. The update which is delivered to those who already have Lion installed is available through Software Update as a 1.07GB download.

Developer Preview 3 reportedly contains a number of visual changes as well as presumably many under the hood updates. Many of the visual changes are detailed by It’s All Tech, just some of the highlights include:

  • Updated Finder toolbar, including a button that allows a folder to be created in a specific location
  • Mission Control now allows Desktops or Spaces to be created from the UI
  • Mission Control is now an app
  • Reading List is now enabled in Safari, button sits in the bookmarks bar
  • New desktop wallpapers are included
  • New animation when logging into desktop

Apple Releases Apple TV 4.2.2 Update

Apple has today released software version 4.2.2 for the second-generation Apple TV, the update effectively moves the Apple TV up to iOS 4.3 and carries a build number of 8F305.

In a support note Apple lists the following changes in the update:

  • Audio: Addresses an issue in which audio is not output when playing some video content.
  • Video playback: Addresses an issue in which video is not displayed when playing some content.
  • Audio output setting: Adds an audio output setting for switching to 16-bit audio for compatibility with some TVs and AV receivers.
  • Live FF/RW improvements: Improves the performance of fast-forwarding and rewinding live events.
  • Movie description: Addresses an issue in which the description information is not displayed for some movies.
  • YouTube video order: Addresses an issue in which YouTube subscription videos were not ordered by date.

Apple has released a minor update to iTunes which offers a number of minor bug fixes related to syncing, video previews and overall stability.

iTunes 10.2.2 provides a number of important bug fixes, including:

  • Addresses an issue where iTunes may become unresponsive when syncing an iPad.
  • Resolves an issue which may cause syncing photos with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to take longer than necessary.
  • Fixes a problem where video previews on the iTunes Store may skip while playing.
  • Addresses other issues that improve stability and performance.

Safari 5.0.5 Available, Security Update 2011-002

Apple has released a minor update to Safari pushing the browser to version 5.0.5. The company also released a security update package for both Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Leopard.

Safari 5.0.5 which is available through Software Update or Apple’s website and according to the company only includes the latest security updates.
